Who we are

When you are finding your way, we hold you.

The Beacon House Community is the relational trauma and attachment framework from Beacon House, packaged for the professional. For the first time in 12 years, the thinking and practice behind the Beacon House name has been brought into a supported, ongoing membership for the people doing the daily work with children, families and communities affected by trauma.

Who this is for

Built for the professional holding the day to day.

Counsellors, therapists and support workers

New into trauma work or wanting to deepen and expand their practice.

Statutory teams and voluntary sectors

Working with children and families who have complex needs.

Teachers and teaching assistants

Mainstream and specialist. The professionals already supporting children and parents daily, often without the support of understanding trauma.

Youth workers and pastoral leads

The trusted adult in the corridor, the youth club, the staff room. The one other adults go to for support.

Leaders and managers

Wanting to understand trauma in the workplace. Leading from the heart.

Who this is not for, yet

Two groups we hold separately, deliberately.

Parents and carers

We hold parents and professionals separately, deliberately. A parent community is in development and will follow soon.

If you are a parent looking for support now, please contact the Beacon House team directly.

Adults who have experienced trauma, and the professionals who support them.

We are building our adult therapy community and this will follow soon.

The shift

What if the behaviour is not the problem?

The single most repeated transformation in Beacon House feedback is the moment a professional stops seeing only the behaviour and starts seeing the wise adaptation underneath it. Once you have seen it, you cannot unsee it.

She is being defiant.

Her nervous system is staying safe by saying 'no'.

He is attention seeking.

He is connection seeking. He has not yet found a safe way to ask.

She has shut down. She is being lazy.

She has gone into a collapse. Her system is overwhelmed, for now.

He is lying.

He has learned the truth has not been safe before. The lie is a survival strategy.

She is being aggressive.

She is in fight. Her body has chosen the only protection it knows.

That is the new lens. The rest of the SAFE Method is what you do next.

The Method

The SAFE Method.

The 4 point professional lens distilled from 12 years of learning at Beacon House. Designed to be held in your body, heart and mind all day.

S

See

See the wise adaptation behind the behaviour. Not "she is being defiant", but "her nervous system is keeping her safe by refusing". The new lens.

A

Attune

Attune to the person before you correct. Connection is the medicine.

F

Foundations

Foundations of regulation, daily, for the child, their family AND for you. to prevent vicarious trauma accumulating in your body. So you can sustain the support you offer.

E

Engage

Engage the system around the child. Parents, family, school, the wider network. The therapeutic web around the child.

Inside Beacon House Community

Three ways in. One framework holding all of them.

Choose what fits where you are now. Move between tiers when the work asks for it. The SAFE Method holds all three.

The path is clear.

Step 1

Choose your path

Try what we offer as a Guest or join our supported paths as a Member.

Step 2

Welcome video

A short welcome from Dr Shoshanah Lyons. The community guidelines. The way we work. The way we hold each other.

Step 3

Your first course

The library opens. Your certificate generates on completion.

Step 4

First Q and A

Wednesday lunchtime. One hour. A themed conversation between Dr Shoshanah Lyons and colleagues, then live Q and A. Bring a curious question.

Step 5

The space grows

One new resource each month for members. Q&A replays in the archive. The community space between sessions. The learning and connection builds throughout the year.

For the part of you that is not sure

This is for you, especially if

  • You have done attachment training, ACE training, regulation training, and you still do not know what to do at half past two on a Tuesday.

  • You are exhausted, and the thought of another course makes you want to sit down.

  • You have not seen the changes you have been working so hard for.

  • You are bringing the day home in your body, again.

  • Your team is short staffed, your manager is busy, and nobody seems to see how heavy this work is.

  • You are not a clinician. Teachers, support workers, youth workers, this is built for you too.

Held by people who have spent careers doing this

Beacon House is a team, not a solo professional.

A national therapeutic team and trauma service for families, adults and organisations. Ofsted Outstanding in all areas with 12 years in practice and a worldwide reputation. 40 specialist therapists, all humans doing our own healing, working it out alongside you.

This is the best training I have ever attended on trauma. There has been no training available nationally or locally that provides this deep level of knowledge and breadth of education.

A Beacon House professional training participant

From the Founder and Director

"The Beacon House Community is the space I wish I had twelve years ago when I dreamt of a way of working where colleagues held and resourced each other, and healing was possible."

FAQs

The questions people most often ask.

Who is Beacon House Community for?

Frontline professionals working with children impacted by trauma. Teachers, teaching assistants, social workers, counsellors, therapists, support workers, youth workers. Mainstream and specialist settings. New into the work or many years in. This first community is for professionals only.

What is the difference between Be Our Guest, Join the Club and Access All Areas?

Be Our Guest is pay as you go. Buy a single training, or buy a single Q and A ticket, no subscription.

Join the Club (Member) is the full Beacon House library on demand, plus the fortnightly live Q and As, plus a new exclusive resource every month, plus a pre order discount on the Beacon House book launching Spring 2027.

Access All Areas (Companion) is everything in Join the Club, plus two 1.5 hour clinical consultation sessions a year with a Beacon House specialist, plus two Developmental Trauma workshops a year, plus Certification on every live Q and A attended.

When are the Q and As?

Wednesdays, 1pm to 2pm. Lunchtime is the rule. They run live and are archived for members who cannot attend. Just a short discussion by Dr Shoshanah Lyons and one or two senior therapists, then open Q and A.

Is this clinical training?

This is professional development, not a clinical qualification. It is designed to deepen and sharpen the work you are already doing. Certificates are auto issued for completed courses, and for live Q and As attended at the Access All Areas tier.

How is this different from other trauma training I have done?

The wise adaptations reframe is the difference. Most existing training treats symptoms as problems to manage. Beacon House treats them as wise responses to what the child has survived. Professionals who have done other training tell us this is the framework that pulls everything else into focus.

How much time does it take each week?

Members go at their own pace. The SAFE Method is a lens, not a curriculum. You can sit with one course for a month or run through the eight courses in a fortnight. There is no homework, no badges, no pressure.

Are parents welcome?

Beacon House holds parents and professionals separately, deliberately. The first community we are launching is for professionals only. A parent community is being built and will follow. If you are a parent looking for support now, please contact the Beacon House clinical team directly.

What if my organisation might pay for it?

Are you a school? a therapy service? a social care or health team? We have Partnership Packages in development for any organisations or teams who would like to subscribe as a group.  We can talk through your options on the free 15 minute no-obligation call. To book, email Rebecca, our Training Administrator, on [email protected]
